Engineering & Building
 First Street water tank
The first First Street water tank is complete and ready for the chlorination process to begin after the holidays. The tank exterior was just washed off in this picture and will dry slightly lighter with a finished gray color. The tank is concrete with a shotcrete-type finish that will stand up to the elements of the nearby Builder’s Concrete Plant and Sand Creek.
 SE 4th drainage & street project
The SE Fourth Street improvement project has begun. The water line work is underway. Then the box culvert will be removed and replaced beginning early in 2024. And lastly the street paving will be replaced between Kansas and Walnut.
Project bidding
We had successful bid openings today for:
- Washington Road water & sewer improvements
- Fox Ridge Phase 1 water, SE 10th intersection at 14th Connector, and paving with drainage improvements
- 2024 rights-of-way tree trimming
The Cow Palace sewer extension request for bids was sent out this week for a Jan. 18 bid letting.
Trash collection schedule
The trash collection schedule will be altered the next two weeks because of the holidays.
Next week, trash normally picked up on Monday will be picked up Tuesday, Dec. 26. Trash normally picked up on Tuesday will be picked up Wednesday, Dec. 27. Thursday and Friday routes will run as usual.
The following week is the same: Trash normally picked up on Monday will be picked up Tuesday, Jan. 2. Trash normally picked up on Tuesday will be picked up Wednesday, Jan. 3. Thursday and Friday routes will run as usual.

Water/Wastewater
Wastewater Treatment Plant staff:
- Responded to two after-hours calls this week.
- Completed state laboratory sample collection.
- Hauled bio-solids.
- RE Pedrotti completed some SCADA programming to provide us with better control of our mixing, which should provide us with more options to control and enhance our phosphorus removal.
- Contractor finished the roof on the Cl2 building.
- Andritz began some preliminary work on the centrifuge rebuild this week.
Mission Water Treatment Plant staff:
- Responded to five after-hours calls this week.
- Moved the old diesel fuel tank from Mission to the new Parks facility.
- Completed annual maintenance on all the well motors.
- Re-installed chemical feed pump #5, due to an improper repair by a vendor, which is now resolved.
Service Center staff:
- Responded to two after-hours calls this week.
- We have received 2,709 Lead & Copper Rule surveys to date.
- Completed the water tap for the South Dillons fuel island.
- Repaired a leak in the 700 block of East Sixth. This turned out to be lead on the public side, so it was removed, and we made a new tap.
- Handled a sewer backup in the 100 and 200 block of Beverly. We handed out "Don't Flush Wipes" flyers on Beverly and Estelle from First St. to Fourth St.
- Moved meter shut-offs to next week after Christmas.
- Repaired a leak in the meter can at 1200 W. First.
Street & Sanitation
This week, our crews:
- Completed street sweeping in Area 3 and 4.
- Repaired two water utility cuts and one gas utility cut.
- Filled potholes on arterial streets and performed pavement patching on E. 12th Street.
Bulky Item Tagging Program
From Dec. 11-15: Our inspector tagged 10 locations. One resident was charged a $20 fee, and two called in for a bulky item pickup to be charged a $10 fee. Seven were taken care of by the resident and are no longer in the right-of-way.
Parks & Cemeteries
This week, our staff:
- Prepared for two services at the cemetery.
- Repaired fence at the cemetery.
- Removed a cedar tree at Athletic Park.
- Dumped trash from parks and began to move items to the new park maintenance facility on East 12th Street.
