Recreation Facilities
Railer Field
Newton Recreation Commission approved a bid from Musco Lighting to add lighting at Railer Field at Centennial Park. Evergy will install the poles up for free, and the NRC will pay for concrete to set the poles and buy and install the lighting. The lights will be LED with remote controls for more efficient operations. The board approved negotiating the electrical installation with Kansas Electric.
Swimming Pool
The NRC board also approved expanding the deck space at the new public pool. It has already been expanded once, and more deck space is needed because of the new pool's popularity and to accommodate birthday parties and rental events. They will extend the deck and move the fencing to the south. NRC will pay for the concrete and shade structures and may order more tables and chairs. Total cost is estimated at about $40,000.
