Suspect arrested in Neosho County homicide
NEOSHO COUNTY – The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) and the Neosho County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a murder that occurred in Stark, Kansas.
The Neosho County Sheriff’s Office requested KBI assistance on Saturday, August 9, around 8:51 p.m. KBI agents and Crime Scene Response Team responded.
On Saturday, at around 6:43 p.m., a 911 call reported a disturbance at a residence in Stark, and Neosho County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to 307 S Washington.
When deputies arrived, they observed blood on the front porch. They later found the victim, Scott Stevens, 65, of Stark, deceased. The investigation led to identifying the suspect as Luke Shepard, 45, of Uniontown. Shepard had fled the scene and was later arrested by the Bourbon County Sheriff’s Office at his home without incident.
Shepard was transported to the Neosho County Sheriff’s Office jail and booked on first-degree murder. Formal charges are pending.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The investigation is ongoing. Nothing further will be released at this time.
