On Oct. 6, the acting Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) director approved the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) September recommendations, including removing the recommended use of the MMRV vaccine (ProQuad, Merck) for children under 4 years. For children under 4 years of age, separate MMR and Varicella vaccinations are recommended. MMRV vaccine (ProQuad) is recommended for children 4 to 6 years of age.
ACIP’s COVID-19 vaccination guidance was also approved by the CDC director. This includes a shared clinical decision-making approach for vaccinating individuals aged 6 months and older.
Following this approval, on Oct. 7, CDC updated both the Child and Adolescent and Adult Immunization Schedules to reflect these changes.
