The Kansas Immunization Program is proud to announce that Dr. Gretchen Homan has been selected as the Immunization Champion for Kansas. This national award is presented by the Association of Immunization Managers (AIM) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and honors individuals across 50 U.S. states, eight U.S. territories and freely associated states, five cities, and the District of Columbia that have gone above and beyond to foster and promote immunization in their communities.
According to her nomination, Dr. Homan’s dedication to immunization efforts across Kansas reflects her strong commitment to protecting public health. Her leadership, education, and advocacy have made her a trusted partner in strengthening vaccination coverage and promoting child health statewide.
Dr. Homan was nominated and selected from a pool of health professionals, community advocates, and other immunization leaders for making a significant contribution to public health in Kansas.
When families, healthcare professionals, and public health officials work together, all people can be protected from serious and deadly vaccine-preventable diseases. Dr. Homan is an inspiration to all of us who care about immunization in Kansas. We are pleased and honored to congratulate her on this well-deserved award.

The Kansas Immunization Program (KIP) is seeing an increase in vaccine deliveries attempted after clinics have closed, even when delivery hours are correctly listed in KSWebIZ. When a shipment arrives outside of your designated hours and no one is available to receive it, vaccines risk becoming spoiled.
To prevent further problems, we strongly recommend the following:
- If your clinic will be closing at noon (or any time earlier than normal business hours), mark your site as unavailable for deliveries that entire day.
- Update this information in KSWebIZ in advance of the closure.
- Please note, if vaccines have already been shipped, updates in KSWebIZ will not affect deliveries already in progress. Allow appropriate time for changes to take effect.
- Plan ahead for holidays, staff meetings or other known schedule changes that may result in an early closure.
Why this matters:
Marking your clinic as unavailable on early-closure days ensures carriers will not attempt delivery after hours, protecting vaccines from spoilage and preventing costly waste.
If your site experiences a delivery issue or receives vaccines that arrive non-viable:
Please make your Regional Immunization Nurse (RIN) aware within 24 hours. If you cannot reach your RIN, email KDHE.Vaccine@ks.gov with information concerning the delivery issue.
If you have questions or need assistance, please contact your Regional Immunization Nurse or the Nurse On-Call at 877-296-0464.
The KSWebIZ Public Portal gives Kansans the ability to request and receive an official copy of their immunization record on their own. This tool reduces the burden on provider offices and helps families quickly access the information they need.
To make the portal as effective as possible, we need your help improving the quality of contact information in KSWebIZ. Having a current cell phone number or personal email address on file ensures that patients can successfully complete their record requests. Without this information, many are unable to receive their immunization record through the portal.
We are asking providers to make it part of their routine to confirm and update patient contact information during visits. Adding even one more piece of contact information — such as a cell phone number or personal email — can make a big difference in a patient’s ability to independently access their immunization history.
Your continued support strengthens the quality of KSWebIZ data and improves access to immunization records for patients and families across Kansas.
