Since January has passed and we are well into February, it’s time to discontinue RSV vaccination during pregnancy. The recommendation to discontinue RSV vaccination for individuals 32 through 36 weeks pregnant is Jan. 31 of each year, which aligns with the RSV season. RSV vaccination of pregnant women 32 through 36 weeks gestation should resume on Sept. 1.
As RSV continues circulating, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends continuing to immunize infants younger than 8 months of age with Nirsevimab (Beyfortus) through March 31. The RSV preventive antibodies in Nirsevimab provides immediate protection. Infants ages 8 months through 19 months should also get Nirsevimab during their second RSV season.
For additional vaccination guidance see the Child and Adolescent Immunization Schedule by Age | Vaccines & Immunizations | CDC.

The Influenza-Like Illness Surveillance Network (ILINet) sites monitor patients for influenza-like illness (ILI), which is defined as symptoms of a fever (>100⁰F) and the presence of a cough and/or sore throat. During the week ending Feb. 15, ILINet sites reported 9% of visits were due to ILI. Syndromic surveillance indicated that 12% of emergency departments visits in Kansas were due to ILI. All data is subject to change.
Influenza activity across the state is currently minimal. During the week ending Feb. 15, the Kansas Health and Environmental Laboratories reported two positive influenza A/H1 specimens. As a reminder, outbreaks of any disease are reportable and should be reported to the epidemiology hotline at 877-427-7317. Stay updated on influenza activity.
