Coming soon! A reminder that all enrolled Vaccines for Children (VFC) and Vaccines for Adults (VFA) providers are required to complete the flu pre-book for the upcoming 2025-2026 flu season. Providers must indicate the number of doses (not boxes) and specify their preferred vaccine brand.
The timing of the pre-book usually occurs around the end of January or the beginning of February. Please note that this process has a rapid turnaround due to CDC requirements.
Enrolled VFA providers may request doses for use with uninsured or underinsured adults. Enrolled VFC providers may request doses for use with VFC eligible children. Local Health Departments, Rural Health Clinics, and Federally Qualified Health Centers may submit requests for special projects. For consideration, special projects must include the number of doses requested, preferred vaccine brand and must include details regarding the special project such as location and intended population that will be reached.
We will notify providers with pre-booking instructions as soon as information is received from the CDC.
Please contact your Regional Immunization Nurse or Nurse On-Call at 877-296-0464 if you have any additional questions.
To simplify and improve the vaccine ordering process for Vaccines for Adults (VFA) providers, We are excited to announce the implementation of a new order system through Shopify.
-
New Ordering System: All VFA vaccine orders will now be placed through Kansas VFA Shopify, following a process similar to COVID-19 vaccine orders.
-
Order Deadlines: VFA orders must be submitted via Shopify by Wednesdays at 5 PM to ensure timely processing.
-
Vaccine Availability: Due to limited federal funding, there is a reduced selection of adult vaccines. Availability and monthly thresholds are detailed on the Shopify site.
We appreciate your ongoing dedication to vaccinating uninsured and underinsured adults in Kansas. Your efforts make a significant impact in your communities.

We are always looking for great vaccination resources. The California Department of Public Health is a favorite source for educational materials.
The California Department of Public Health has a one-page handout on how to set up vaccine storage units. This guide details the do’s and don’ts of storing vaccines in both refrigerator and freezer units. If you are looking to re-organize your vaccine storage units or just want to make sure that you are storing your vaccines properly, this is a great guide for you.
Additionally, the CDC provides vaccine labels to help you get your storage units organized. These labels include the vaccine name, storage requirement, indicated age for vaccination, how it is presented and storage precautions.
With proper storage and handling practices, the safety and efficacy of vaccines is maintained, protecting individuals and communities from vaccine-preventable diseases. We thank you for all you do to keep your communities healthy.
The Influenza-Like Illness Surveillance Network (ILINet) sites monitor patients for influenza-like illness (ILI), which is defined as symptoms of a fever (>100⁰F) and the presence of a cough and/or sore throat. During the week ending October 12th, ILINet sites reported 5% of visits were due to ILI. Syndromic surveillance indicated that 8% of emergency departments visits in Kansas were due to ILI. All data is subject to change. Influenza activity across the state is currently minimal.
During the week ending December 21st, the Kansas Health and Environmental Laboratories reported one positive influenza A/H3 specimen. As a reminder, outbreaks of any disease are reportable and should be reported to the epidemiology hotline at 877-427-7317. Stay updated on influenza activity.
