The Kansas Immunization Program (KIP) would like to update you on the current situation regarding the nationwide delays in vaccine deliveries. The CDC's central distributor is currently experiencing challenges in fulfilling regular orders, compounded by the distribution of influenza doses and the new 2024–2025 COVID-19 vaccines.
At present, we expect the following timelines for vaccine order fulfillment: • Flu Orders: Backlog (Estimated return to current – Sept. 30) • Routine Orders: Backlog (Estimated return to current – Oct. 2) • Frozen COVID Orders: Current • Priority Orders: Current
KIP truly appreciates your patience and understanding during this time and would like to thank you for your continued dedication to ensuring your patients receive the vaccines they need. Your ongoing efforts are crucial in keeping our communities safe and healthy.
In light of the delays, KIP wants to let you know that borrowing from your private stock is acceptable at this time to ensure your patients are vaccinated. Please be sure to document any borrowing appropriately and submit your borrowing sheets to your regional immunization nurse at the end of the month.
If you have any questions regarding the borrowing process, please reach out to your regional immunization nurse or contact the nurse on call at 877-296-0464.
Thank you again for all of your hard work and commitment to public health. KIP values your partnership in this important mission.
Please see the Regional Immunization Nurse Assignment map for information on who your site’s assigned Regional Immunization Nurse is and how to contact them.
Thank you!
With the start of respiratory vaccine season, new vaccine formulations have also arrived. The COVID-19 and seasonal influenza vaccines have both been updated for the 2024-2025 season.
Use of vaccine from previous seasons is no longer authorized. Any inadvertent administrations of the expired vaccines should be reported to Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS). Please refer to previous HAN for how to handle the previous season vaccine.
Influenza vaccines have been updated from quadrivalent to trivalent since B/Yamagata has not been identified since March 2020. All vaccine codes have changed due to this switch. KSWebIZ staff will be checking administration data to monitor for documentation of quadrivalent vaccine and may check to see if an administration error or documentation error has occurred. Insurance reimbursement is based on the current recommendations, which do not include quadrivalent vaccine. Information on the influenza vaccine .
