August is National Immunization Awareness Month (NIAM). This annual event emphasizes the importance of safeguarding individuals of all ages from vaccine preventable diseases through timely vaccinations. This year, NIAM is dedicated to helping everyone catch up on routine vaccinations.
The NIAM web page includes two toolkits. Each toolkit includes essential messages, example social media posts and educational materials.
During NIAM, remind your patients to book appointments to stay current with their annual exams and recommended vaccines.
You can access the toolkits here:
Use the hashtag #ivax2protect to share these important messages and resources.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has updated the addendum pages of the 2024 Child and Adolescent Immunization Schedule and 2024 Adult Immunization Schedule with the newest official Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices recommendations from the June meeting.

CDC data show that vaccination coverage among kindergarteners has declined to its lowest level in decades and an estimated 750,000 young learners entered kindergarten during the COVID-19 pandemic who were not up to date on their school vaccinations. A recent uptick in global and domestic measles cases and outbreaks underscore that under- and unvaccinated children are at risk for serious illness. Routine immunization catch-up is a goal we can achieve by working together. CDC calls upon health care providers, education professionals, and trusted community messengers (with materials also available in Spanish) to help keep kids healthy, in school and ready to learn.
