Kent County Corrections and Jail Millage Response
KENT COUNTY , Mich: We respect the voters’ decision on this proposal, and appreciate everyone who participated in the democratic process. The proposal included both a renewal and an increase, and we understand how expensive everyday life has become for families across Kent County. We need to listen carefully to our community and better understand voters’ concerns as we consider next steps.
Our current millage remains in place through the 2029 levy, and this election result does not change our day-to-day operations at this time. We will continue working closely with county administration and the Board of Commissioners to evaluate responsible funding options, carefully considering community needs and the impact on taxpayers.
Our corrections facility serves law enforcement agencies throughout Kent County. Its central intake operations provide shared booking, screening, custody, and care services. Helping residents understand those responsibilities and how they are funded will remain part of our work. We remain hopeful about our community’s continued partnership with the Sheriff’s Office.
“I am proud of our deputies and staff, who do demanding work every day with professionalism, compassion, and dedication,” said Sheriff Bryan Muir. “We will continue supporting this team, working to provide the services our community expects and keeping the public informed as we plan for the future.”
