Operation Green Light Returns To Kent County
GRAND RAPIDS, MI (October 6, 2026) - Kent County Veterans Services is inviting the community to take part in Operation Green Light to show their support for the nearly 25,000 veterans who call Kent County home.
The mission is simple: change your porch light to a green bulb or illuminate your workplace with a green light November 4-11, 2026 (the week leading up to Veterans Day) to show support for our veterans and thank them for their service and sacrifice.
“By putting green lights outside homes across our county, we can spark conversations about the importance of thanking and supporting our veterans, while also helping connect them with the resources available in our community,” said Ryan Grams, Director of Kent County Veterans Services.
Veterans Services has partnered with The Light Bulb Company in Kentwood to purchase 1,500 bright green light bulbs for community members to pick up for free and take part.
"Freedom is far from free," said Ben Smies, President of the Light Bulb Company. "For those who have fought for those freedoms, I am eternally grateful.”
For the second year in a row, all Kent District Library branches will have light bulbs available for pick up at all of its locations (While supplies last; one lightbulb per household).
“Operation Green Light is a simple but meaningful way for our community to show our gratitude to the veterans who have served and sacrificed for us,” said Craig Buno, Community Engagement Manager at Kent District Library.
