Kent County Invites Residents To Free North Community Fest This Thursday
GRAND RAPIDS, MI (August 11, 2026) - After nearly 3,500 people attended the South Community Fest on July 29, Kent County is excited to celebrate a second event in Northern Kent County this Thursday, August 13, designed to bring neighbors together, connect people with County services, and celebrate the communities they call home.

4 to 7 p.m.
Kent County North Campus
4191 17 Mile Rd. NE, Cedar Springs
The event will feature:
- Free backpacks and school supplies (while supplies last)
- Free ice cream (while supplies last)
- Kids' activities including face painting, balloon animals, and more
- Big trucks on display, including a fire engine from the City of Cedar Springs Fire Department and Kent County Road Commission equipment
- Live K-9 demonstrations from the Kent County Sheriff's Office
- Meet-and-greets with the Sheriff's Office Mounted Unit and their horses
- Local food trucks serving hometown favorites
“Thursday’s North Community Fest is a great opportunity for residents to come together, enjoy a summer evening with their neighbors, and connect with the people and services that help make Kent County a great place to live,” said Al Vanderberg, Kent County Administrator. “We’re looking forward to welcoming families from across the community and making this year’s event another memorable one.”
Residents will also have the opportunity to meet representatives from 20 County departments, offices, and affiliates through Meet & Greet tables. Participants include:

- Friend of the Court
- Gerald R. Ford International Airport
- Health Department
- Human Resources
- John Ball Zoo
- Kent County Road Commission

- Parks Department
- Probate Court
- Prosecutor's Office
- Public Works
- Sheriff's Office
- Veterans Services
The event will also feature local food trucks, with items available for purchase.

Admission and parking are free, and no registration is required. Residents are encouraged to RSVP to the Facebook event to stay updated.
