Teen Seriously Injured in Overnight Crash
SPARTA TOWNSHIP, Mich: On 6/5/2026 at 10:30 PM, deputies responded to the intersection of N Division Avenue and 13 Mile Road for a report of a crash involving a pickup truck and a mini bike.
Preliminary investigation found a 16-year-old male was operating a minibike westbound on 13 Mile Road NE, possibly without a functioning headlight, as he approached the intersection. A 31-year-old male driving a pickup truck was traveling southbound on North Division Avenue.
According to both the pickup truck driver and an independent witness, neither observed the minibike before the collision occurred. Both stated the pickup truck entered the intersection from a complete stop and was struck in the side by the minibike.
The 16-year-old rider was transported to a local hospital for treatment. As of 6/6/2026 at 8:00 a.m., he was listed in stable but critical condition.
The Kent County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Safety Unit is continuing to investigate the crash, and no determination regarding contributing factors or potential violations has been finalized.
