Single-Vehicle Fatal Crash Under Investigation
CASCADE TOWNSHIP, Mich: On April 22, 2026, at approximately 9:43 PM, the Kent County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Communications Center received an automatic crash notification from an iPhone. Seconds later, multiple callers reported that a vehicle had crashed into a tree and was on fire in the area of Buttrick Ave SE and Ashwood Dr SE.
Deputies and fire rescue personnel responded to the scene and located the vehicle fully engulfed in flames. The driver, a 46-year-old male from Cascade Township, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Kent County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Safety Unit is investigating the cause of the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.
