Flood Advisory Update for Thornapple and Grand River Areas
KENT COUNTY, Mich: Recent rainfall over the past several days has resulted in elevated water levels throughout the region. Several water control structures along the Thornapple River watershed are currently experiencing high flow conditions. In addition, the United States Geological Survey river gauge at Comstock Park indicates the Grand River is forecast to crest at approximately 15.4 feet, which falls within moderate flood stage and just below the major flood stage of 16 feet.
At this time, no widespread flooding issues have been reported, but water levels remain elevated and conditions can change. Residents—particularly those in low-lying or flood-prone areas—are encouraged to remain aware of local conditions and take appropriate precautions.
Drivers should never attempt to travel through flooded roadways and should always follow posted barricades or road closure signs. Extra caution is also advised during nighttime hours when water over roadways or other hazards may be more difficult to see.
The Kent County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Management will continue monitoring conditions and will provide updates as necessary.
