Massage Therapist Charged in Assault Case
GRAND RAPIDS TOWNSHIP, Mich: In early 2024, a patient reported being inappropriately touched during a trauma massage therapy session in Grand Rapids Township. The investigation identified the suspect as 63-year-old Dana Piper of Southfield, Michigan.
Piper was charged in August 2024 following the allegation. During the investigation, it was determined that Piper had been removing sheets covering the patient unnecessarily and touching body parts not consistent with massage therapy. Piper also recommended “pelvic floor therapy,” which the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs has stated is not permitted for massage therapists.
Piper recently entered a guilty plea to aggravated assault. He is scheduled to return to court for sentencing in November 2025.
This case is an example of how reports from victims are taken seriously and thoroughly investigated to ensure accountability and community safety.
