Armed Suspect Taken into Custody After Hours-Long Standoff
PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich: On August 23, 2025, just after 10:00 a.m., deputies were called to a home near Balsam Ave and Holtman Dr on a report of a domestic assault involving a weapon. The victim was able to safely exit the residence before deputies arrived.
Deputies attempted contact with the suspect, who had barricaded himself inside the home with a firearm. For several hours, deputies from multiple divisions, including patrol, the tactical team, negotiators, investigators, K9, and drone operators, worked to safely resolve the situation.
After more hours of direct communication with the KCSO negotiation team, the suspect, a 43-year-old male, surrendered peacefully just before 6:00 p.m. He was taken into custody and lodged at the Kent County Correctional Facility pending review of charges by the Kent County Prosecutor’s Office.
