**Corrections made to the date of crash**
Plane Crash Kills Two In Vergennes Township
Vergennes Township, Mich. — On July 21, 2025 just after 4:30 PM , a small aircraft crashed into a storage facility near the intersection of Vergennes Street and Lincoln Lake Avenue SE in Vergennes Township, just outside the Lowell Airport.
The aircraft had departed from Alpena, Michigan, and was going through the Grand Rapids area when it went down. Both occupants, 62-year-old Kevin Lawrence from Presque Isle, Michigan and Paul Shalk, 68-year-old male of Rogers City, Michigan, tragically died in the crash.
The Kent County Sheriff’s Office is working alongside the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) in a coordinated, multi-agency investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
