Before ballots are printed for an election, the County does a comprehensive proofing to ensure the following:
- Election title
- Proposal and candidate name spelling
- District numbers
- Number to be elected to each office
- Candidate name rotations
Each candidate for public office receives a sample copy of the ballot via USPS and email to review the spelling of their name. Each school district and township/city that places a proposal on the ballot also receives this. Lastly, each local jurisdiction clerk's office reviews their own ballots. Lots of different offices and candidates proofread the ballots to ensure 100% accuracy before they go to print. The number of ballot styles depends on the election, for example the August 2024 Primary Election had 254 ballot styles, but for this August Primary and Special Election we only have 3!
