KCSO Responds to Drowning at Campbell Lake
BOWNE TOWNSHIP, Mich: We extend our condolences to the family and friends of the young man who died this afternoon at Campbell Lake. Losing a loved one is very difficult, and we recognize the impact this has on those who knew him.
Just before 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 8, 2025, road patrol responded to a report of a possible drowning at Campbell Lake in Bowne Township. An 18-year-old male from Byron Township had been swimming when he went underwater and did not resurface. Deputies, along with Alto and Caledonia Fire Departments, responded and began search efforts. Due to the depth and conditions of the water, the male could not initially be located. A KCSO Marine Patrol unit, along with assistance from responding fire departments and a civilian on scene, used several boats to locate and recover the victim, who was pronounced dead.
The incident remains under investigation. While there are no known ongoing safety concerns at Campbell Lake, we encourage everyone to use caution around water.
