 
63rd District Court Implements MiFILE E-Filing System
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (June 12, 2025) - Starting today, Kent County’s 63rd District Court is pleased to announce that it has joined more than 50 courts across Michigan in adopting MiFILE, the statewide electronic filing system sponsored by the Michigan Supreme Court and State Court Administrative Office (SCAO). This modernized system provides attorneys and self-represented litigants with 24/7 access to submit and serve legal documents electronically, eliminating the need for in-person visits to the courthouse.
“Implementing MiFILE at the 63rd District Court is a significant step forward in improving efficiency and access to justice,” said Chief Judge Jeffrey J. O’Hara of the 63rd District Court. “By streamlining the filing process, we are enhancing convenience for litigants while ensuring that our court operates more effectively in serving the community. This system will reduce wait times, lowers costs associated with physical filing, and makes the legal process more accessible to residents who may have difficulty traveling to the courthouse.”
Over the past several years, Michigan courts have worked diligently to develop a standardized and reliable e-filing solution. With the support of amended Michigan Court Rules and established standards, MiFILE continues to evolve, providing increased flexibility for litigants and improved operational efficiency for courts statewide.
As the system goes live today, attorneys will now be mandated to e-file under Michigan Court Rule 1.109(G)(3)(f). Additionally, the court has elected to mandate e-filing for self-represented litigants, further supporting the transition to a fully digital filing system.
MiFile currently applies only to Kent County's Civil Docket. Criminal and traffic dockets are not included at this time but will be added in the future.
