Kent County Animal Shelter Celebrates Return to Fuller Avenue Facility with Grand Reopening on June 2
Grand Rapids, Mich. (May 28, 2025) - After 12 weeks of extensive renovations, the Kent County Animal Shelter (KCAS) has officially returned to its primary location at 740 Fuller Ave. NE, and will celebrate the occasion with a Grand Reopening on Monday, June 2, from 4 to 6 p.m.
The shelter began its move back from a temporary facility in late April and has now reopened to the public with improved amenities designed to enhance animal care and community services. Upgrades include new flooring throughout the facility and space enhancements to better serve animals and their future families.
“We’re thrilled to welcome the community back to our Fuller Avenue shelter,” said Angela Hollinshead, Director of the Kent County Animal Shelter. “This renovation represents a new chapter in our continued commitment to providing high-quality care for animals and meaningful support for pet owners across Kent County.”
During the Grand Reopening celebration, visitors will have the opportunity to tour the facility, meet shelter staff and volunteers, and connect with some of the adorable pets currently available for adoption. Guests can also learn about lifesaving programs, volunteer opportunities, and resources available to support pet owners in the community. And community partners like the Grand Rapids Pit Bull Alliance, Pleasant Hearts Pet Food Pantry, and CSNIP will also be in attendance to share information about their services.
“We’re so grateful to our community and partners, like the Humane Society of West Michigan and Harbor Humane, for helping us navigate this transition,” Hollinshead added. “We’ve seen incredible compassion and generosity, and we’re excited to now offer an even better space to carry out our mission.”
