Fatal Single-Vehicle Crash in Vergennes Township
VERGENNES TOWNSHIP, Mich:
The Kent County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred last night in Vergennes Township.
On Feb. 4, 2025, at approximately 10:35 p.m., deputies responded to a crash on Vergennes Street near Flat River Drive. Preliminary investigation indicates that a sedan traveling eastbound on Vergennes Street struck a deer and the driver to lost control. The vehicle left the roadway, crossed Flat River Drive, and rolled over in a wooded area.
The driver and sole occupant, identified as 36-year-old Suzanna Cooper of Lowell, MI was pronounced deceased at the scene. Investigation found she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The Kent County Sheriff’s Office Traffic & Safety Unit is continuing to investigate the crash. As we continue our investigation, we want to remind everyone that seatbelts are one of the simplest ways to reduce the risk of serious injury in a crash. Please take a moment to buckle up every time you drive.
