Kent County Sheriff's Office Investigates Overnight Fatal Crash
BYRON TOWNSHIP, Mich: On Friday, January 31, 2025, at approximately 10:40 p.m., deputies from the Kent County Sheriff’s Office responded to a single-vehicle crash near 100th St SW west of Homrich Ave SW in Byron Township.
A passenger car traveling westbound on 100th St left the roadway and struck a tree. The vehicle became engulfed in flames following the crash. The driver, a 39-year-old woman from Holland, MI, was able to exit the vehicle. The passenger, identified as Stephanie Deridder, 43, of Holland, MI, suffered serious injuries from the crash and was removed from the vehicle by responding fire personnel. Life-saving measures were attempted on scene but were unsuccessful, and Deridder was pronounced deceased.
An on-scene investigation determined the vehicle lost control while traveling downhill on an ice-covered section of the roadway. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
The Kent County Sheriff's Office Traffic & Safety Unit continues to investigate the crash.
