Cedar Springs Man Arrested Following Early Morning Pursuit
PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich: Around 4:00 AM this morning a Kent County deputy attempted to perform a traffic stop on a black Chrysler 300 near Plainfield Ave and Vista Springs Ave for driving without its headlights on, but the vehicle did not stop. A brief pursuit ensued and it was self-terminated due to the weather conditions. KCSO later observed the Chrysler collide with a Ford Fusion near 5 Mile Rd and attempted to pursue it again. Simultaneously as the deputy was going to disengage, the Chrysler crashed into a stop sign.
KCSO is thankful that the driver of the Ford, a 40-year-old man, was not seriously injured.
Deputies observed three people leave the Chrysler. A 17-year-old girl from Grand Rapids was apprehended near the vehicle and brought home. Deputies utilized a drone to locate a 15-year-old Plainfield Township girl in the 2800 block of Northville Dr, in the backyard of a residence. She was taken to a local hospital for treatment for minor injuries and for being under the influence of alcohol. Lastly, with the assistance of the Grand Rapids Police Department and their K9, we located and arrested a 20-year-old Cedar Springs man approximately a half mile away from where the Chrysler crashed.
The Cedar Springs man is in the custody of the Kent County Correctional Facility, and it is anticipated that the Kent County Prosecutor's Office will review this case.
The Kent County Sheriff’s Office prioritizes the safety of our community and commends the swift and professional actions of our staff. We are grateful that no one was seriously injured. We extend our appreciation to GRPD for their support and collaboration, which highlights the effectiveness of shared resources and partnerships in ensuring public safety.
