Kentwood Precinct 8 has been selected for the independent audit by the County and State Bureau of Elections. The audit is scheduled for Friday, June 6 at 9am in room #311 of the County Administration Building and is open to members of the public to attend.
Last month Clerk Posthumus Lyons was a panelist at an event hosted by Keep Our Republic titled Trust In Our Elections: A Community Conversation. County voters brought great questions about our election laws and processes. She was joined by an election attorney to discuss recent changes to election law and a voter who shared her experience learning about and now participating in the election process.
If you have interest in inviting Clerk Posthumus Lyons to provide her Elections 101 presentation to your community group, please contact Kent County Elections Director Mike Sullivan michael.sullivan@kentcountymi.gov.

Before ballots are printed for an election, the County does a comprehensive proofing to ensure the following:
- Election title
- Proposal and candidate name spelling
- District numbers
- Number to be elected to each office
- Candidate name rotations (where applicable)
Each candidate for public office receives a sample copy of the ballot via USPS and email to review the spelling of their name. Each school district and township/city/entity that places a proposal on the ballot also receives a sample proof. Additionally, each city or township clerk's office reviews the proof ballots for their jurisdiction. This collaborative effort by elections officials and candidates helps to ensure accuracy of ballots before they go to print. For for the August 6, 2024 Primary Election, Kent County has 254 unique ballot styles!
