Kent County Clerk Launches New Tool to Help Citizens Search Past Election Results
Grand Rapids, MI (April 12, 2024) – The Kent County Elections team is proud to announce the launch of ElectionStats, a cutting-edge tool designed to facilitate public access to historical election data. Accessible through KentCountyVotes.com, ElectionStats serves as a comprehensive data warehouse, offering insights into past elections, ballot questions, and voter turnout statistics.
“I am very excited to continue efforts to modernize my office and to provide the public a better way to access and analyze past election results,” Kent County Clerk/Register Lisa Posthumus Lyons said. “In addition to providing more transparency, this tool will increase efficiency in my office, diminish costly records requests, and help increase voter confidence in our elections.”
ElectionStats features a user-friendly interface that allows individuals to delve into Kent County's electoral history. With a simple query box, users can filter data by year, office, and election type. The platform presents comprehensive election results, including candidate information, ballot questions, and voter turnout metrics. To ensure data integrity, primary source documents from Kent County Elections records are attached to all viewed data, enabling individuals to verify information with ease. Moreover, users can compile aggregate data by setting multi-year search parameters and export their findings into a .csv file for further analysis.
It is important to note that ElectionStats operates independently of the County’s election management system. Results from the latest election will only be incorporated following certification by the County Board of Canvassers. Currently, election results dating back to 2014 are available, with plans for expansion to include data from as far back as 2002 later this year.
“Whether you are a student, potential candidate for public office, media, or voter, you can now use our Kent County Elections Database to search past election results more easily,” Lyons said. “I am confident this tool will be helpful as we continue our mission to provide secure, transparent, fair, and accurate elections,” said Lyons.
To check out ElectionStats and learn more about elections in Kent County, Lyons encourages people to visit KentCountyVotes.com.
