Charges Issued in Sparta Township Infant Drowning
SPARTA TOWNSHIP, Mich: On November 22, 2023, the Kent County Sheriff's Office, the Sparta Police Department, Rockford Ambulance, and local fire departments responded to the drowning of an 8-month-old boy in the bathtub. The mother, a 23-year-old woman from Sparta Township, was home alone with the baby at the time of the incident. Detectives conducted an extensive investigation that revealed circumstances were different than originally presented. Today, the Kent County Prosecutor's Office authorized charges of involuntary manslaughter and child abuse against the mother. The mother is expected to be arraigned in the 63rd District Court.
