Kent County Board of Commissioners Elect New Leadership During Annual Organizational Meeting
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (Jan. 11, 2024) — The Kent County's Board of Commissioners held its annual organizational meeting this morning, marking the election of leadership positions to steer the course for 2024.
Commissioner Stan Stek (District 6) secured his position as Chair of the Board for a third consecutive year. Stek was first elected to the Commission in 2014 and is an Attorney with the law firm Miller Canfield.

Commissioner Ben Greene (District 1) was elected as Vice Chair of the Board. This election followed the decision of Commissioner Brieve who chose not to pursue reelection as Vice Chair due to personal and professional considerations. Greene has represented the 1st District since 2021 and owns Northland Strategies, a communication firm.

Commissioner Stephen Wooden (District 15) was elected as Minority Vice-Chair for a third term and will serve as Vice-Chair of Finance and Physical Resources Committee. Wooden has represented the 18th District since 2019 and is a Housing & Community Development Associate for Dwelling Place.

Commissioner Emily Brieve (District 10) will continue to serve as Chair of the Finance and Physical Resources Committee. Brieve has represented the 10th District since 2015 and owns her family’s small business, FastoolNow.com.

Commissioner Dan Burrill (District 8) was again selected to serve as Chair of the Legislative and Human Resources Committee. First elected to the Board in 2021, Burrill is an Associate Broker at Five Star Real Estate and a licensed builder.

"Being elected for a third year is a tremendous honor, and I am deeply grateful for the privilege to continue leading the Board and serving the residents of Kent County,” said Board Chair Stek.
"Throughout the year, our focus remains on implementing initiatives that will continue to drive economic prosperity. These include the expansion of our affordable housing fund, bolstering behavioral health services, and executing a facilities plan to enhance service accessibility, among other critical endeavors."
Board Appointments

The Finance and Physical Resources and Legislative and Human Resources Committees meet bi-monthly and Commission meetings are held on the second and fourth Thursday of each month, unless otherwise noticed.
