KCSO Investigates Suspected Swatting Calls
PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich: Just after 2:00 PM today, the Kent County Emergency Communications Center received a call from the crisis hotline advising of an anonymous subject making a threat forward Rockford Public School's Belmont Elementary. The threat made mention of an explosive device. Our KCSO School Resource Officer and patrol staff were on scene quickly and helped move children to the Plainfield Township Offices for safety. Within an hour, the school was searched by our explosives detection K-9 and other deputies and called "all clear".
This would be the fourth suspected "swatting" call that KCSO has received since yesterday. In total, one in Grand Rapids Township and three in Plainfield Township over the course of two days. Thus far, all calls have been unfounded. However, this causes a significant disruption to our community and we will take all necessary precautions. KCSO investigators are looking into these cases along with the Federal Bureau of Investigations Grand Rapids Office.
