KCSO Lieutenant Recovering - Suspect in Custody
KENT COUNTY, Mich: At 6:30 PM last night, the KCSO Narcotics Team was assisting the Metro Pattern Crimes Task Force (MPACT) with arresting a wanted suspect. Detectives attempted to apprehend the 34-year-old Grand Rapids man while he was parked in his vehicle along Eastern Ave & 32nd St. The suspect was surrounded and refused to comply with commands. The suspect's black BMW SUV started ramming several parked cars as it was fleeing and as a result one of the parked cars struck a KCSO detective. Our 21-year veteran Detective Lieutenant was knocked to the ground and transported to an area hospital. Thankfully, he has since been discharged from the hospital overnight.
The suspect was able to flee in his vehicle, but the BMW was later found abandoned in Grand Rapids. KCSO & MPACT detectives continued their investigation and had information the suspect was at an apartment in the 1000 block of Woodfield East in Gaines Township. The KCSO Tactical Team was activated and conducted a search warrant at an apartment. The suspect was known to be armed and was hiding in an attic space. After an hour of negotiation, the suspect came out of the attic and apartment peacefully. Inside the attic space were two handguns, a glock switch, and marijuana.
The man will face charges in Wyoming 62A court related to charges of fleeing police and 63rd District Court for firearms and drugs. The Michigan State Police is conducting the crash investigation portion due to officer-involved injury.
