KCSO & Lowell Area Fire Investigate Fatal House Fire
VERGENNES TOWNSHIP, Mich: Kent County Dispatched received a call at 12:31 AM of a house fire along Flat River Dr SE. The caller indicated that her boyfriend and a child were still in the house. Within several minutes Lowell Area Firefighters arrived to find the home in flames and a 27-year-old male in critical condition due to burns. The first firefighter who arrived went straight in knowing that a child was still in the house. Due to the heavy fire conditions, the firefighter became disoriented, but as more help arrived, they were able to locate the boy. Tragically, the boy was found deceased and one firefighter suffered minor burns as they retrieved the boy.
The father of the boy, a 27-year-old man, was taken to an area hospital where he remains in critical condition. A 27-year-old female, along with a 64-year-old man, and a 54-year-old woman were also transported to an area hospital for smoke inhalation and were later released. Lowell Area Fire is being assisted by, KCSO detectives, and Michigan State Police Fire Investigators who will determine the origin and cause of the fire. Many thanks to the several area fire departments and Rockford Ambulance for their efforts during this difficult time.
