Dear Community Members,
As the Director of Kent County Community Action (KCCA), it is my privilege to introduce you to our new quarterly newsletter. This newsletter is our latest effort to keep you informed about what is happening at KCCA, upcoming events, volunteer opportunities, employee highlights and more.
As you may know, at KCCA we strive to assist Kent County individuals, families, and communities to achieve lasting economic security and move out of poverty. We focus on meeting emergency needs such as, but not limited to, food, utility assistance, housing, transportation, and socialization for residents of Kent County. Additionally, we invest in sustaining and creating affordable housing, public infrastructure and supporting our non-profit partners in the community. We are advocates, conveners, and drivers in the fight against poverty. Our goals are to develop communities, expand opportunity, and improve lives.
We are excited about this new chapter in our communication efforts and we welcome your input and ideas on topics you would like us to cover. Please send us any suggestions or questions to KCCAinfo@kentcountymi.gov.
Thank you in advance for your support, and we look forward to engaging with you in the community and through this quarterly newsletter.
Sincerely,
Kent County Community Action Director, Gustavo Perez

October is Energy Awareness Month, a national effort to underscore how central energy is to our national prosperity, security, and environmental well-being. In accordance with this, Kent County Community Action offers a Weatherization Assistance Program for residents who qualify, to help keep individuals/families warmer in the upcoming winter months.
Offering free weatherization for Kent County residents enables households with low-income to reduce their heating costs by making homes more energy efficient.
Services may include:
- Attic & Wall Insulation
- Health & Safety Checks
- Air Sealing Measures
- Other Energy Efficiency Measures
For interested individuals/families, call 616-632-7950 to schedule a screening time.

Employee Spotlight: Lewis Strom
We are so grateful for Lewis' work as a Community Service Assistant at Kent County Community Action! In his role, he is an intake worker on the emergency services team and assists residents facing housing, food, and utility emergencies.
"The most rewarding part of my job is assisting single parents in Kent County. Many of the single parents we assist are one’s who have no outside support and for one reason or another are not collecting any child support. Raising a family is a full-time job in itself so, when single parents are both raising a family and required to work enough to cover the monthly expenses, it’s my honor to be able to assist them when they fall on hard times."
