KCSO Recovers Two Stolen Vehicles After Pursuit
GAINES TOWNSHIP, Mich: Today just after midnight, a KCSO deputy located a stolen vehicle with a stolen license plate on it in the area of Eastern Ave near 60th St. The Lincoln MKX did not stop and fled westbound on 60th St and northbound on Division Ave. As the vehicle approached 44th St it began to slow and several occupants got out and ran. A 14-year-old male from Kentwood was apprehended by deputies. The other occupants were not located, but two pistols were found in the car.
Another deputy was in the area of 44th St & Division assisting and observed a white Jeep Compass circling the area. This vehicle was listed as stolen and a second pursuit began. The pursuit went northbound along US131 and ultimately ended in the area of Mulford Dr & Linden Ave in Grand Rapids. Multiple occupants fled from the Jeep but were not located. This Jeep was stolen on May 22nd from Byron Township.
The teenager apprehended in the first pursuit was lodged at juvenile detention on charges related to the stolen vehicle and firearms. The Lincoln MKX was stolen about a month ago from the City of Wyoming and is believed to be involved in numerous car break-ins throughout Kent County. One of the pistols recovered was stolen from a home in Plainfield Township earlier this year.
We are thankful for the assistance of our law enforcement partners at the Michigan State Police, Grand Rapids Police Department, Wyoming Department of Public Safety, and the Kentwood Police Department. KCSO investigators are currently following up on leads in relation to both pursuits. As they work to bring many of these thefts to resolution, we remind the public to keep their car keys in their homes.
