Stolen Mail from Around West Michigan Recovered
BYRON TOWNSHIP, Mich: Just before 1:00 AM this morning, deputies received information that a Jeep stolen out of Kalamazoo was in the area of Byron Township. KCSO units closed in and attempted to stop the vehicle near 84th St & US131. The Jeep fled from deputies, but nearby units were able to use spike strips along US131 at 100th St. The vehicle continued to flee until it stopped along US131 near the Dorr exit. The Allegan County Sheriff's Office assisted our deputies in taking two suspects into custody.
Over one hundred pieces of stolen mail were found inside the vehicle. This includes multiple credit and debit cards, checks, and other assorted mail. The mail was stolen from the Kalamazoo area, Ottawa County, and Byron Township.
A 40-year-old Kalamazoo man and a 37-year-old Kalamazoo woman are lodged at the Kent County Jail on charges related to the stolen vehicle, flee and elude, and possession of burglary tools. KCSO detectives are still sorting through the mail to contact victims as of this morning. KCSO has been in contact with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service for the possibility of a federal investigation.
