Kent County Board of Commissioners American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) Work Session
On Friday (Oct. 14), the Kent County Board of Commissioners is holding a work session to begin considering the eligible community and internal proposals. A work session is a less formal proceeding and provides the Commissioners an opportunity to gather and analyze information, and does not involve final decisions or voting.
The Commissioners will be conduct a prioritization exercise on all of the eligible community and internal proposals. Specifically, the Commissioner's will be assigning a value between 1 and 5 to each proposal.
This is not a voting or decision-making exercise. Rather, the information obtained from this exercise will help County staff develop a series of ARPA funding packages with specific proposals and funding amounts for the Board of Commissioners to consider and approve by the end of the year. Additionally, the results of this exercise will be important, but not the sole consideration in the development of the spending packages.
The results of the prioritization exercise will be posted on www.kentcountyarpa.com the week of Oct. 17.
Public Comment
There will be two public comment periods during the work session. To ensure the prioritization exercise can be completed, the first public comment rules are:
- Public comment is limited to items appearing on the agenda,
- Public comment is limited to one (1) minute per person,
- One (1) spokesperson for each proposal should be designated to allow time for others to provide public comment,
- Public comment is not a dialogue, meaning questions will not be asked of those providing comment or proposal submitters nor will questions be answered by the Commissioners, and
- Public comment period is limited to 30 minutes.
After the prioritization exercise is completed, the second public comment period will be held. Rules one, two, and three listed above will be applied to the second public comment period.
These changes are authorized by the Kent County Board of Commissioners Standing Rules (Section III, Rule 3.1 and 3.4).
Written Comments
Public comment can be e-mailed to publiccomment@kentcountymi.gov and will be sent to the Board of Commissioners and included in the official record. Written public comment should be limited to no more than 250 words.
Livestreamed
The work session will be livestreamed on the County's social media sites.
