 Staff Day Chess Camp
Location: Margerum City Hall
Participants in the Staff Day Chess Camp will learn beginner to intermediate chess concepts & activities, starting with piece movements, chess puzzles, basic mating webs, & chess playing.
Learning Chess will help your child develop abstract thinking, build self-confidence, think before acting, strengthen critical and analytic thinking, learn sportsmanship and have fun!

AmeriCorps Park Allies:
Join Us this Summer for Nature Camp
Do you want to get more experience with environmental educational programming? If so, we have a perfect opportunity for you to help put on our summer nature camp at the Celery Bog! This program is designed to let you explore the great outdoors while helping children learn and grow with a goal to instill a love of nature and of our public lands, as well as promote the concept that we all share a responsibility as stewards and citizens of this incredible place we call home. Lead and implement wildlife-based conservation and environmental education programing, curriculum, and experiences for campers with the goal of fostering responsible actions toward wildlife and related natural resources.
Position Term: May 12, 2025 to August 1, 2025

Aquatics
Location: John R. Dennis Wellness Center
Swim Lessons: Registration opens February 12th at 9:00 a.m. for the 3-week mini session swimming lessons. The session begins February 25th. Classes will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Lifeguard Course: Ready to make a difference and develop lifesaving skills? We’re proud to collaborate with the American Red Cross to offer a comprehensive Lifeguard Training Course. This program equips participants with the knowledge and abilities to prevent, identify, and respond to aquatic emergencies, as well as provide critical care when it’s needed most.
The course covers:
- Water rescue techniques
- CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer
- First aid skills
Whether you’re preparing for a rewarding job or just want to build confidence in emergency situations, this training has you covered. Don’t miss the opportunity to learn skills that save lives!

Lilly Nature Center
Dutch Oven Cooking: Registration is now open for our first two Dutch Oven Cooking programs of 2025! Mark your calendars—they’ll be held at the Cumberland Park Shelter this year instead of the Happy Hollow East Shelter.
Trailblazers: Introducing Trailblazers, an exciting new spring program focused on map reading and orienteering. Perfect for outdoor explorers of all levels! Check out all the details and registration info now on CivicRec.
Eco Adventures: Join us on a 4-week Eco Adventure! Each week we will complete a lesson based on different ecological topics and then participate in an activity based on that topic. Topics include Keystone Species, Water Cycles, Whoo, Whoo, Whoo is That Owl, and Insectigations.

Margerum City Hall Programs
Art for All: Whether you're a Picasso or just someone who enjoys finger painting, we have a variety of classes to help you enhance your artistic skills this winter. Miss Jeannette will be offering courses such as Advanced Painting, Mixed Media, Art for Teens, Creative Painting & Drawing, Creative Art Expressions, and Saturday Art Break. The dates and times for these classes vary, so be sure to check for availability in CivicRec.
Brick Builders: Join us several Saturdays each month and build STEM challenges with LEGOs. Topics include Gadgets, Disaster Island, Bridge Builder and more. This program is for ages 6 to 12 years old.
Kitchen Academy: Learn basic cooking and baking skills in a small group setting. We will practice knife skills, learn about ingredient measurements and how to read and follow a recipe to making a delicious dish each week from scratch. Ages 6-12.
Private Music Lessons: Enjoy a 45-minute private lessons in lead, acoustic, and bass guitar, ukulele and songwriting available upon request. Riverside Skating Center
Learn to Skate: Looking to try something new this winter? Come join us for our ice skating clinic, open to all ages 5 and up! Whether you’re a first-timer or want to sharpen your skills, this clinic is the perfect opportunity to learn and have fun on the ice.
📅 Date: Saturday, February 1 ⏰ Time: 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. or 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.

Dare to Bare: Join us as we brave the cold and skate in our swimsuits on Friday, February 1. For those brave enough to skate a few laps there will be free pizza and hot chocolate to help you warm up. This year we also have a Hawaiian theme, dress up if you wish and join the fun!

Sports
Intro to Pickleball: Interested in learning more about the world's fastest growing sport? Join us for a 4-week clinic and experience the fun for yourself! During each session, we will cover rules of the game, basic skills, and give you a chance to get some gameplay experience! Participants age 16+ are welcome.
📅 Date: Mondays, March 4 to March 25 ⏰ Time: 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. or 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. 📅 Registration Opens: February 1st at 8:00 a.m.
Spring Youth Basketball: Our Youth Basketball Program is designed to teach kids the fundamentals of the game while promoting teamwork, confidence, and a love for basketball. With experienced coaches and a fun, supportive environment, players will develop essential skills like dribbling, shooting, and passing—all while making new friends on the court!
Open to players of all skill levels, this program is the perfect way for young athletes to learn, grow, and enjoy the game.
📅 Date: March 4 to March 25 for ages 5-11, and April 19 to May 24 for ages 3-5 📅 Registration Opens: February 24th at 8:00 a.m.
Spring Coed Recreational Volleyball League: Join us for an 8-game season of coed recreational Volleyball! Sing up as a team or register as an individual and be assigned a team. Team rosters may include up to 10 people. Teams must play with 3 females on the court at all times. Games will be played on Thursday evenings at the John R Dennis Wellness Center.
📅 Date: April 3 to May 22 📅 Registration Opens: February 22nd at 8:00 a.m.
