Mayor Erin Easter to Appoint Captain Adam Ferguson as the Next Chief of Police
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind (January 10, 2025) - The City of West Lafayette is pleased to announce that Mayor Erin Easter will appoint Captain Adam Ferguson as its next Chief of Police. With more than 20 years of dedicated service to the West Lafayette Police Department, Captain Ferguson brings a wealth of experience, leadership, and community-focused values to this esteemed role.
Mayor Erin Easter shared her enthusiasm, stating, “I am extraordinarily grateful for the past and continued leadership of the West Lafayette Police Department. Over the past month, we have evaluated several candidates for our next Chief of Police through input from past and current leadership, the entire police department, the public, and our partner agencies. Adam Ferguson’s vision for the future of the West Lafayette Police Department continues our tradition of excellence in policing. As our next Chief, I know that Adam will lead the department the way our city expects and with the integrity West Lafayette demands."
Captain Ferguson’s career in law enforcement spans for more than two decades, during which he has held various leadership roles, including Patrol Captain, Patrol Lieutenant, and Patrol Sergeant. He is particularly proud of his 22 years on the department’s Special Response Team while recognizing the importance of his other roles in shaping his career. He is currently pursuing a Master of Public Administration at Indiana State University, further demonstrating his commitment to professional growth and community service.
Raised in Goshen, Indiana, Captain Ferguson moved to West Lafayette in 1995. For the past 20 years, he has lived in the West Lafayette area with his wife and their three children. His passion for community service is evident in his roles as a “Big” and Vice President of the Board of Directors with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Lafayette and as the Law Enforcement Liaison for Special Olympics of Tippecanoe County. He is also a graduate of Leadership Lafayette (Class 51) and an active member of First United Methodist Church of West Lafayette.
Details about a swearing-in ceremony for the next Chief of Police will be shared soon via the City’s social media and email communications. Additionally, a Facebook Live Q&A-style interview with the next Chief, will take place at a later date, providing residents an opportunity to engage directly and learn more about his vision for public safety in West Lafayette.
