John R. Dennis Wellness Center Member Reminders

Aquatics 

The pool opens 30 minutes after the building opens to allow the lifeguards time to set up and check the chemicals so all members have a safe and positive experience. Here are a few other reminders: 

• No changing on deck, which includes diapering
• Only Dennis Wellness Center staff are permitted to teach swim lessons
• Children ages 8 years old and younger need an adult in the aquatics center at all times
• Children with red bands must be within an arm's reach of an adult at all times

Clubhouse

The Clubhouse is for children ages 6 weeks to 11 years old to play, learn, and explore while parents workout: 

• The child(ren) must me members, or parents need to pay a fee for Clubhouse access
• Parents must register for a slot in MotionVibe
• Parents must remain onsite at Cumberland Park
• Parents must be accessible
• Limit of 2 hours per day, per child 
• Only staff and registered volunteers are permitted in the Clubhouse
• Taking photos in or of the Clubhouse is not permitted

We have received feedback from some of our members regarding the reservation of slots in Motionvibe. It has been brought to our attention that some families reserve time slots but do not show up for their reservations, causing frustration for other members who could have used the space. We kindly request that if you no longer need your reserved time, please cancel your reservation so that other children can benefit from the available spot.
We would also like to remind everyone to be prompt for their reserved time slots as the room fills up quickly. This will help ensure that all children have equal access to our Clubhouse facilities and can enjoy a safe and pleasant experience. Thank you for your cooperation.

Achieving your fitness goals is an incredible journey that helps you to stay fit and reduce stress. To make this journey better for all, let's prioritize the safety of everyone by following these simple guidelines while working on the fitness floor: 

• Be patient with new members! They are learning and we want to be kind and helpful. 
• No food on the fitness floor or track 
• Do not drop weights; rack them when finished
• Wipe down all equipment when finished; there are wipes located around the wellness floor in the silver wipe/trash can containers
• Only Dennis Wellness Center staff can assist with personal training, teaching classes, or other fitness needs. 
• Shirts are required at all times, including over sports bras and crop tops. Clothes must be clean and odor-free. It is mandatory to wear closed-toe shoes at all times.
• Children younger than 9 year of age are not permitted on the fitness floor
• Register for all classes and arrive on time: If you are more than 5 minutes late, your spot will be turned over to the next person waiting 
• Keep rest time on machines to 2 minutes or less so other members can finish workouts; avoid cellphone usage while on machines
• If you have concerns, stop by the training desk at the top of the stairs and talk with a personal trainer 

We've received complaints about no-shows for class reservations. Please cancel your reservation in MotionVibe if you can't attend, so that others can take your spot. Is is a growing concern and we hope it will be resolved by this reminder. 

Membership

We have more than 7,000 members enjoying the John R. Dennis Wellness Center. To help us out, we ask that all members are familiar with the Member Code of Conduct and a few additional reminders: 

• Be respectful of closing time: make sure rides are called, showers are done, and workouts are complete so our employees can go home to their families 
• Using the side door or giving a friend your key fob can and will result in suspension from West Lafayette Parks programs. We have Community Days, which allow free access to the building and a scholarship program to make the Wellness Center more accessible for our community.  Additionally, we'll be adding more Bring a Friend Free days in 2024. 
• Members ages 13 and younger need an adult in the facility at all times
• Everyone needs to have a signed guest waiver on file; guests less than 18 years of age needs to have a parent or guardian sign the waiver in-person
