Dear Members and Guests,
Thank you for being so supportive of the West Lafayette Wellness Center. We appreciate that you have chosen to join us on your wellness journey. We strive to make our facility as welcoming as possible, but we need your assistance to ensure it remains a safe and friendly environment for all our members and guests.
Our strict policy prohibits non-Wellness Center staff from conducting business activities and/or training within our facility or park premises. This includes personal training, fitness classes, sports coaching, swim lessons, or other commercial enterprise endeavors. By conducting such activities in our facility, you are unfairly taking away clients and income from our highly trained staff and jeopardizing the integrity of the Wellness Center. The Wellness Center was not designed as a specialized training facility, but rather as a space for people of all ages and fitness abilities to enjoy recreation-based activities as a community.
It's essential to follow basic gym etiquette and refrain from charging members and guests for fees when you are not employed at the Wellness Center. Doing so exposes the Wellness Center to liability, which is unfair to our members, staff, and community. Everyone must adhere to the policy outlined in the Member Code of Conduct and guest forms. We take this matter very seriously, and any violation of the policy will result in an immediate six-month suspension for both the member and the trainer or coach involved.
Our staff undergoes thorough background and reference checks and they hold certifications or degrees in their respective work areas. They are also trained in Child Abuse Prevention, as mandated reporters by the state of Indiana, and are trained in CPR and first aid. Our facility has strict policies to ensure children's safety in our care because keeping children safe is a top priority for all our staff.
If you are passionate about helping children with sports coaching or helping members with their wellness journey, we encourage you to join our team or volunteer with us. You can also write your own class and submit a program proposal for the Parks and Recreation leadership team to review. We have teaching spaces available at the Lilly Nature Center, Margerum City Hall, and various parks.
If you feel you are eligible for a Special Request, you may submit a form to our Park Board for review. Please note that all requests must be submitted at least six weeks before the activity occurs. We will not consider any requests while you are suspended from the Wellness Center for misconduct.
We appreciate your support for the Wellness Center and West Lafayette Parks and Recreation. It's our collective responsibility to preserve public spaces for community use and enjoyment rather than individual gain. Please notify us immediately if you notice any financial transactions taking place outside of the Hub or Margerum City Hall desks. Our employees will never request payment in cash or personal checks. You can identify our employees by their shirts bearing our logo and name tags.
If you have any questions, concerns or would like to report such activities listed above, please email us at wellness@westlafayette.in.gov
Sincerely, Your West Lafayette Parks and Recreation Team
