The officers immediately responded to the parking lot and observed a vehicle leaving the area where the shots had been fired at a high rate of speed.
Other responding officers from WLPD, assisted by officers from the Purdue University Police Department, located the car as it was leaving the scene and initiated a traffic stop. During a subsequent investigation, a handgun was recovered from the vehicle and one of its occupants was identified as the person who had allegedly fired the gun.
Investigators believe a verbal argument escalated to the gunfire. However, several of the subjects believed to be directly involved in the incident have not been cooperative. At this time there is no indication that anyone was struck by the gunfire and no property damage has been found. Responding officers noted that a number of people who may have witnessed the incident fled the area after the shots were fired.
