Free DNR event on Sept. 20-21
The Ford Hoosier Outdoor Experience will take place Sept. 20-21 at Fort Harrison State Park in Indianapolis, and runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day.
The event is designed to introduce outdoor activities to visitors who have never tried them. Some of the activities include fishing, kayaking, off-roading, mountain biking, archery, and target shooting.
Admission, parking and all activities are free. Food vendors will be available, or you can bring a sack lunch.

Back-to-School camping special at state parks and reservoirs
A new offer from Indiana State Parks & Reservoirs makes weeknight camping more affordable during September.
Those who book a new campsite reservation for one or more weeknights (Sundays through Wednesdays) during the month will receive 20 percent off of their reserved weeknights at the time of booking.
The offer applies to all State Parks & Reservoirs campgrounds, Deam Lake and Starve Hollow state recreation areas, and Greene-Sullivan State Forest.

Share outdoor experiences with DNR social media contest
A new DNR social media contest encourages Hoosiers to stay connected with the online world even as they unwind in the great outdoors.
The contest asks people to share their outdoor experiences on the Instagram photo-sharing service and follow DNR at indianadnr. To participate, post a photo and use the hashtag #getINoutdoors. Make sure to identify the subjects and locations in the photo and tag indianadnr.
Participants will be entered for a random chance to win a 2015 Annual Entrance Pass for Indiana State Parks & Reservoirs. The contest ends Sept. 19. The DNR may use the photo entries for promotional purposes.

Venison donation program connects hunters and the public
A program that allows hunters to give deer meat to the public will continue this fall.
GiveIN Game, DNR’s venison donation program, will be available for its fourth year. Hunters who are willing to donate venison and people who would like to receive venison can begin registering on Sept. 1. Find out more

DNR proposes regular-season 2014 waterfowl season dates
The regular-season waterfowl dates, as proposed to the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (USFWS) by the Indiana DNR are now available. The dates are not final until approved by the USFWS in mid- to late-September. Look for another announcement around that time that will either confirm or amend these dates. Free family fun day at Kingsbury FWA shooting range
A family fun day at the shooting range will take place on Sept. 21 at Kingsbury Fish & Wildlife Area from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Participants will learn safe firearm handling and shooting using BB guns, .22 caliber rifles, shotguns, along with muzzleloading demonstrations, trapping information, and archery instruction with 3-D target shooting.
Lunch is provided. The event is free and door prizes will be given.

Two DNR employees earn hospitality honors
McCormick’s Creek State Park property manager Dwight Brooks and Indiana Dunes State Park interpretive naturalist Brad Bumgardner were recently awarded with the Lt. Governor’s Hoosier Hospitality Award.
The award recognizes several Hoosiers each year for exceptional service to Indiana tourism. Lt. Gov. Sue Ellspermann presented the award to Brooks and Bumgardner at the Indiana State Fair. Read more
