JANUARY 2018
HAPPY NEW YEAR! STILL NEED A RESOLUTION? It's not too late! And there are simple resolutions that will add up as the year goes on, like regularly changing the furnace filter, turning the thermostat or water heater temp down, or unplugging phone chargers when you're not using them. Those are just some of the things that will add up to energy savings, and help with your bills throughout 2018.
IPL RATE CASE The OUCC's attorneys and technical staff have started reviewing Indianapolis Power & Light Company's (IPL's) rate case, filed in late December. IPL's request would raise overall rates by $124.5 million to pay for its new Eagle Valley generating plant in Morgan County, environmental upgrades at existing power plants, and additional infrastructure investments. Hearing dates and filing deadlines will be posted on the OUCC's website when they are set. As in all IURC cases, the OUCC is inviting written consumer comments.
CASE UPDATES
Recent Commission orders include approval of the IPL/Indianapolis street lighting contract. The OUCC recommended approval of the contract, along with future reports that will demonstrate the effectiveness and cost savings of the new, more energy efficient lights.
A settlement agreement on NIPSCO's coal combustion residuals plan has also received Commission approval. The OUCC, industrial customers, Citizens Action Coalition, and NIPSCO are the agreement's parties.
An IURC public field hearing in the NIPSCO gas rate case is set for January 3 in Merrillville with an additional hearing to be scheduled in South Bend. The OUCC continues to invite written consumer comments through January 17.
The Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) rate case's evidentiary hearing starts on January 16 and is scheduled to last up to two weeks.
The OUCC is scheduled to file testimony in the Lafayette municipal water rate case on February 15, with an IURC public field hearing to be scheduled.
GET TO KNOW US! Did you know that our team has hundreds of years of legal and technical experience? We put that knowledge to work on behalf of Hoosier ratepayers each day. LOOKING GOOD AT 201 Lyndsey Lane and Brien Krieger of our staff met with fourth-grade students from throughout Indiana at the December 11 Statehood Day celebration at the Statehouse. It was a great way to celebrate our state's 201st birthday, and we enjoyed talking with the kids about energy safety, saving energy and water, and more!
