Regular physical activity is an important factor in maintaining overall health. Health benefits of physical activity include regulation of blood pressure, management of anxiety and depression, and preventing weight gain and obesity.
The American College of Sports Medicine recommends at least 150 minutes of aerobic activity every week and muscle-strengthening activities on 2 or more days a week that work all major muscle groups.

ActiveHealth health coaching and online tools help you find a plan you can stick with. Their team includes Certified Personal Trainers, Exercise Physiologists, Registered Dieticians, and more. Talk with a health coach about your current diet and physical activity routine, or how to start something new. Health coaches work with you to design a personalized plan that works for you. Reminder: Eligible employees and spouses can earn $20 for completing a health coaching session (up to $100 total), through the wellness rewards program.

A balanced diet is a key factor in maintaining overall health. Healthy eating can reduce the risk of developing high blood pressure, heart disease, cancer, obesity, osteoporosis, and dental cavities.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture recommends each meal to fill half your plate with fruits and vegetables, fill one quarter of your plate with whole grains, fill one quarter of your plate with lean proteins, and have dairy with each meal as well.

Indiana has almost 200 farmers markets throughout the state with nearly one in every county. Farmer's markets can be a great way to add fresh fruits and vegetables into your diet.
The United States Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Nutrition.gov website is a great resource to find tips, tools, and recipes to help you maintain a healthy diet.
MyPlate Kitchen, also from the USDA, has a library of recipes that you can search by ingredients, course, food group and cooking equipment.

The State of Indiana offers free Health Coaching through ActiveHealth to every employee and their spouse covered under the state health insurance plan.
A health coach can help you set personalized health goals, and your coach will support you as you strive to reach them. Your health coach will provide expert help to make healthy changes in exercise, diet, sleep, mindfulness, work-life balance, tobacco cessation, weight management or other areas you want to focus on.
And, eligible employees and spouses can earn $20 for completing a health coaching session (up to $100 total), through the wellness rewards program.

Remember—your goal is 15 exercise minutes and 10,000 steps each day, but you can help boost your team’s rank by doing even more! Go beyond your activity goal by logging up to 30 minutes of activity, and walk an extra 2,500 steps to push your team into the No. 1 spot.

Learning assignment for health plan members
Ever wonder how your medical plan costs are determined? Or what the differences between a deductible and coinsurance are? Or if there’s a cap on the medical expenses you pay annually? Get answers to these questions and more through a new learning module on medical insurance terms, costs and concepts with real-life examples.
All members of a State Personnel Department-sponsored medical plan will be enrolled in a training through SuccessFactors and will be required to complete by July 31, 2023. If this required training applies to you, you will receive an email with more details.
