Garrett High School's Construction Trades Program Builds Strong Futures
Garrett-Keyser-Butler students, educators and faculty participate in a groundbreaking ceremony for Brennan Estates on Dec. 19, 2019.
For more than four decades, Garrett High School's Construction Trades Program has been inspiring and preparing students for future careers in the industry.
In 2019, the program was recognized by the Office of Work-Based Learning and Apprenticeship as a State Earn and Learn (SEAL) program.
"This SEAL adds more credibility to what we are trying to accomplish," Chad Sutton, said Director of Career Development at Garrett High School. "It tells our industry partners that we are serious about skill development for our students."
Our February "Talent Talk" blog highlights the positive impact this program continues to have on students, business and education in the community, and features a short Q&A with seniors Brandon Gater and Calvin Gardner about their individual experiences in the Construction Trades Program.

Employer Opioid Strategy Spring 2020 series
With over 200,000 Hoosiers suffering from substance use disorder currently employed and over 800,000 Hoosiers struggling with illicit drug use, employers must be equipped to manage the impact substance misuse has on their present and potential talent.
Data shows the workplace is the most powerful and effective environment for directing individuals to assistance, and every business has a desire to retain and assist valuable talent.
Beginning March 3, Indiana Workforce Recovery hosts its second series of educational events to provide employers with a base level of technical knowledge and resources to manage the immediate impact of substance misuse on their current and future workforce.
This is a continuation of the popular event series from 2019, which saw over 600 business participants attend events around the state, 95% of whom would recommend this program to another colleague/employee at their organization, and ranked the program at a 4.5 out of five in overall quality.
