The 525 Foundation, a not-for-profit foundation that exists to educate teens and families and raise awareness about the dangers of alcohol and prescription drug misuse and abuse, is hosting its first prevention conference, called The Great Lakes Region Prevention Conference. This meeting will cover topics such as adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), stigma, mental health, prevention, drug-endangered children and more. Breakout session topics include vaping, marijuana, hiding in plain sight, adverse health effects of binge drinking, dangers of social networking sites, ACEs, emerging trends in fentanyl, the science behind a natural high, helping youth find a natural high, drug-endangered children and others. Tickets include two full days of training; four keynote sessions; a welcome bag with water bottle, notebook, and pen; access to vendors in the convention hall; free WIFI; a chance to win items after day two; and breakfast, lunch and snacks. Bible Baptist church in Terre Haute hosts a recovery program called Reformers Unanimous (RU). This is a faith-based substance use program that helps people break the chains and cycle of substance use disorder. Kevin Szwarga, the pastor at Bible Baptist church, explains that it is a recovery program designed not only to give sobriety which is suppressing those desires, but to give freedom to give victory to overcome those desires that people have. It takes about six months to get through the first curriculum and see results. The program is every Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at 2500 E. Margaret Ave., Terre Haute, IN 47802.
