Indiana State Police Investigating Inmate Death at Tippecanoe County Jail

Tippecanoe County – At the request of the Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Office, the Indiana State Police are conducting an investigation into the death of an inmate at the Tippecanoe County Jail.

A preliminary investigation by detectives from the Lafayette Post indicate that on September 14, 2024, around 3:00 p.m., jail staff were alerted by an inmate to a potential medical emergency in their cell. Upon arriving, jail staff found an unresponsive inmate, contacted EMS, and began rendering medical aid. Despite their efforts, the inmate was pronounced deceased at the jail by the Tippecanoe County Coroner.

The preliminary investigation does not indicate any signs of foul play. The name of the deceased has been released by the Tippecanoe County Coroners Office. Please refer to their press release for any further information. 

This investigation is ongoing, and no further information is available at this time.
