Hancock County, IN - Yesterday, July 3, 2024 at 2:15 p.m. Hancock County 911 dispatchers received a call about shots fired on I-70 from a moving vehicle at a semi tractor-trailer on I-70 near the 101 mile marker. The information was immediately relayed to Indiana State Police Dispatchers, two troopers in the area heard the initial dispatch from Hancock County and moved into position to intercept the suspect vehicle.
The two troopers saw the vehicle west of Mt. Comfort Road and pulled it over, the driver was the only occupant and was taken into custody, a handgun was also in the vehicle. State Police Detectives responded to the scene to conduct the investigation. One detective met with the victim, a semi driver who was not injured. There was damage consistent with gunshot holes in the passenger side of the semi. Another detective met with the troopers and spoke with the suspect.
Investigators believe a road rage encounter led to the shooting. 22 year old Gregory Davis of Indianapolis was arrested for the shooting and transported to the Hancock County Jail.
This interstate shooting is the 40th incident of gunfire on Indianapolis area interstates so far this year. Last year ISP investigated 55 interstate shootings in the Indianapolis District.
Anyone who witnesses any type of road rage, or becomes involved, is encouraged to call 911 immediately, information provided by witnesses is inherently valuable in these investigations.
This arrest was based upon probable cause of a crime, all crimes mentioned are alleged and all suspects are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in court. This investigation is ongoing and there is no further information to release.
