Troopers Respond to Severe Storm

Bloomington, IN – Troopers from Indiana State Police Post in Bloomington responded to numerous reports of damage throughout the Bloomington area as a result of a passing storm.

A severe storm was reported to have struck McCormick’s Creek State Park during the late evening. Responding Troopers focused on assisting the Owen County Sheriff’s Department, several Owen County Fire Departments, Owen County Emergency Services, and Indiana Conservation Officers with checking the park for potentially injured campers who were in various camp sites during the severe storm.  Found campers were evacuated from the campgrounds with assistance from the Spencer-Owen County School Corporation, who supplied a bus to help with the transport.  At this time, no series injuries have been reported.

Owen County Sheriff Ryan White reported power outages throughout the county including Spencer and Gosport.

Lawrence and Monroe counties reported downed trees while Morgan County reported downed trees and power lines which included loss of power in Martinsville. High winds also caused severe damage to buildings in Martinsville.

Troopers continued their response to storm damage throughout the night.

Citizens, who must travel, are reminded to be aware of debris, downed power lines, clean up crews, and possible flooded areas. The Indiana State Police recommends our citizens to exercise extreme caution and be prepared for storm damage throughout the Bloomington area.
