Interstate 69 Road Rage Ends in Multiple Arrests

(Anderson, Indiana) Troopers from the Indiana State Police Pendleton Post arrested individuals after they allegedly pointed a firearm during a road rage incident on Interstate 69.

On January 4, 2023, just before midnight, Indiana State Police dispatch received a report of a road rage incident in which a firearm was pointed at the caller.  The caller described the weapon as having a green laser and was pointed out of the rear window of the vehicle onto the front window of the caller's car.  Troopers from the Pendleton Post quickly responded to the area and located the vehicle matching the description.  Trooper Matthew Dickerson was able to stop the maroon Chrysler minivan .

When Trooper Dickerson spoke to the driver, who was identified as Ty Richardson, 19, of Indianapolis, and a passenger, identified as Jaron L. Ratliff, 19, of Anderson.  Trooper Dickerson noticed a smell of marijuana emitting from the vehicle and waited until Trooper Michael Garcia arrived to assist before detaining both of the individuals in the vehicle.  Troopers conducted a search on the vehicle.

During a search of the vehicle, 48.5 grams of marijuana was located in the center console of the vehicle.  A .40 caliber Glock handgun was also located in the glovebox.  Upon inspection of the handgun, Trooper Dickerson identified a laser/flashlight attachment on the handgun that emitted a green laser.  Both occupant were arrested and transported to the Madison County Jail without incident.

Ty J. Richardson, 19, of Indianapolis, Indiana

  • Operating While Intoxicated, a class A Misdemeanor.
  • Possession of Marijuana, a class A Misdemeanor.
  • Possession of paraphernalia, a class C Misdemeanor.

Jaron L. Ratliff, 19, of Anderson, Indiana

  • Pointing a firearm, a level 6 Felony.
  • Possession of Marijuana, a Class A Misdemeanor.
  • Possession of paraphernalia, a class C Misdemeanor.

All criminal defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
